Deakin University for International Students: Fees, Entry and Intakes

October 31, 2026

TL;DR: Deakin University teaches international students at Melbourne Burwood, Geelong Waurn Ponds, Geelong Waterfront and Warrnambool, with intakes in March, July and November. Deakin's 2027 International Course Guide lists annual fees of AUD 43,800 to 48,000 for the popular degrees below, IELTS of 6.0 to 7.0, scholarships worth 25 to 100 percent of tuition, and Deakin College as the pathway when your marks fall short.

Four questions decide a Deakin application: which campus teaches your course, what it costs, what score you need, and whether you start at Deakin or its pathway college. Check your eligibility with Prosper for a second opinion.

What does Deakin University offer international students?

Deakin University fees for international students

The fees above are the "2027 annual cost" in Deakin's 2027 International Course Guide. Deakin calls them indicative and says tuition can rise by up to 6 percent each academic year. Our guide to Australia tuition fees for international students compares Deakin with other universities.

Deakin University entry requirements

Each undergraduate course sets its own minimum, which can differ by campus. A master's degree needs a completed bachelor degree, and a related degree can shorten it: the Master of Business Analytics takes 1.5 years instead of 2. Our guides to the Master of Business Analytics in Australia and the Master of Cyber Security in Australia compare these routes.

Deakin accepts IELTS, PTE Academic, C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency and OET. Most bachelor degrees need IELTS 6.0 with no band below 6.0, most master's degrees 6.5 with no band below 6.0, and Nursing 7.0 with 6.5 in writing. Our PTE exam guide covers the main alternative to IELTS.

Deakin University intakes

In 2027, teaching begins on Monday 1 March (Trimester 1), Monday 5 July (Trimester 2) and Monday 1 November (Trimester 3). The master's degrees above take all three intakes; most bachelor degrees take March and July, and Nursing at Warrnambool starts in March only.

Deakin decides coursework applications in about two to three weeks once it has every document. Then come the Confirmation of Enrolment, the Genuine Student requirement and the visa, which together usually take three to four months. See how to apply to university in Australia.

Deakin University scholarships

Most Deakin scholarships are limited and awarded first come, first served.

  • Deakin Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarship: 50 or 100 percent of tuition. You need an 85 percent average, a 300-word statement and two references, sent a month before your course starts.
  • Deakin International Scholarship for Excellence: 25 percent of tuition for students from listed countries, assessed automatically, with a 75 percent average (undergraduate) or 80 percent (postgraduate).
  • South Asia merit awards: 10 and 20 percent awards for citizens of listed countries only.

Deakin College: the pathway route

Deakin College teaches on the Melbourne and Geelong campuses and calls itself a guaranteed pathway into Deakin University. Its diploma (8 or 12 months) leads into the second year of a Deakin bachelor degree when you finish with a weighted average mark (WAM) of 50, or 70 for law, and asks for IELTS 5.5 with no band below 5.0. Intakes are March, June and October. Deakin College's 2026 fees are AUD 35,200 to 40,000 for a diploma, AUD 32,200 or 37,260 for the Foundation Program and AUD 21,000 for the 4-month Masters Qualifying Program for graduates.
