Victoria University Melbourne: Block Model, Fees and Intakes

November 08, 2026

TL;DR: Victoria University (VU) is a Melbourne university that teaches most degrees through the VU Block Model, where you study one subject at a time in four-week blocks. International master's fees for 2027 are AU$20,250 per semester for courses such as the Master of Business Analytics, and VU offers a scholarship of up to 30% off first-year tuition.

Victoria University suits students who learn best by focusing on one subject at a time, with a campus in the centre of Melbourne. This guide covers how the Block Model works, fees, intakes, entry and scholarships. Not sure if your results are enough? Check your eligibility with Prosper.

What is Victoria University in Melbourne known for?

Victoria University is best known for the VU Block Model. In VU's words, "you study one subject at a time, in four-week blocks (or eight-week blocks for some postgraduate courses)", with three-hour classes three days a week. It applies to all bachelor's degrees, higher education diplomas, postgraduate coursework and higher education certificates at its Melbourne and Sydney campuses.

VU has more than 40,000 higher education and vocational students. In Melbourne, its campuses include the 32-level VU City Tower in the CBD and Footscray Park beside the Maribyrnong River, with further campuses in Melbourne's western suburbs.

VU also has international campuses in Sydney (Sussex Street, in the city centre) and Brisbane (Fortitude Valley), both delivered with the Education Centre of Australia. VU's CRICOS provider codes are 00124K for Melbourne and 02475D for Sydney and Brisbane.

Victoria University in Melbourne is a different institution from Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. If you are comparing the two, read our guide to Victoria University of Wellington.

How the VU Block Model changes your study

Under a typical semester model, students take several subjects at the same time across a full semester. At VU you take one subject, finish it in four weeks, then start the next.

Feature VU Block Model Typical semester model
Subjects at once One Several
Length of each subject Four weeks (eight for some master's subjects) Whole semester
Class pattern Three-hour classes, three days a week Lectures and tutorials across the week

The Block Model suits students who like steady focus on one subject. Classes three days a week also give you a predictable timetable to plan around.

Team Prosper
Team Prosper|Editorial Team
Team Prosper is the editorial desk at Prosper Global Education, the Colombo-based study abroad consultancy co-founded in 2023 by Lasantha Jayawardena and Sandeepani Wickramasinghe. Articles carry this byline when they report a policy update, a university announcement, or an intake change, rather than draw on either founder's first-hand experience of guiding students. The desk links to the primary government or university source behind every factual claim, and says plainly when a rule is still changing or a detail has not yet been confirmed. Requirements move, and an article that pretends otherwise is worth less than one that tells you what is settled and what is not. For guidance on a specific application, Prosper's counsellors work directly with students and families from the Colombo office.
