Teesside University for International Students: Fees, Entry and Intakes

October 27, 2026

TL;DR: Teesside University suits international students who want a lower-cost UK master's with a work option built in. For 2026-27 entry, most one-year master's cost £17,000, the two-year Advanced Practice master's cost £10,000 a year, and the deposit is £4,000. Postgraduate intakes run in January, May and September, at the Middlesbrough campus and at Teesside University London in Stratford.

Three questions decide whether Teesside fits: will your degree be accepted, what will it cost in total, and is the work placement real. This guide answers each from the university's own pages. Not sure where you stand? Check your eligibility with Prosper.

Is Teesside University a good choice for international students?

For many applicants, yes. Teesside University is based in Middlesbrough, in the Tees Valley in north-east England, and it also runs a London campus at Here East, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford. The university lists its awards on its international pages: Times Higher Education University of the Year 2025, a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework (2023) and a QS 5-Star rating.

London offers gaming, business, cyber security, computer science and public health courses. Two features stand out for postgraduate students:

  • Fixed fees. The university says fees are fixed at the same level for all the years you study on the same course.
  • Advanced Practice master's. These two-year courses add one semester of internship. The university guarantees a research internship but says it cannot guarantee a vocational (work) internship, so plan for either.

Teesside University entry requirements

Undergraduate. The general rule is at least two A levels or an equivalent Level 3 qualification. A foundation year needs at least one A level or equivalent. Advanced entry with an HND or diploma is decided case by case. The university's International Study Centre closed on 31 August 2026, so the foundation route now runs through the university's own foundation years.

Postgraduate. Course pages usually ask for a 2:2 honours degree or equivalent. The MBA also asks for at least two years of full-time, graduate-level work experience.

English language. Teesside sets IELTS by subject group:

Level Subject group IELTS overall
Undergraduate Computing, engineering, science 5.5
Undergraduate Business, law, psychology 6.0
Postgraduate Business, computing, engineering, MBA 6.0
Postgraduate Education, law, psychology, HRM 6.5
Both Health courses 7.0

PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, LanguageCert Academic, OET and Teesside's own English test are also accepted. Most courses need at least 5.5 in each IELTS band, and a pre-sessional course needs at least IELTS 4.5.

Teesside University fees for international students

These are the 2026-27 international fees published by the university. Check the course page for the year you apply, as 2027-28 fees were not yet published on 27 October 2026. Our guide to UK tuition fees for international students shows how these compare.

Course type Fee
Undergraduate degree £17,000 a year
One-year MSc or MA £17,000
Postgraduate Diploma £16,150
Two-year MSc or MA with Advanced Practice £20,000 total (£10,000 a year)
MBA £17,000
MBA (Global), two years £20,000

Course examples: MSc Computer Science is £17,000 over 12 months (16 months from January). MSc Data Science (with Advanced Practice) and MSc Project Management (with Advanced Practice) are £10,000 a year.

The Advanced Practice route costs £3,000 more in total than a one-year master's and adds an internship semester, but you will need living costs for the longer stay.

Teesside University intakes, deposit and scholarships

Intakes. Middlesbrough postgraduate courses start on 18 January 2027, 17 May 2027 and 20 September 2027; London starts on 18 January and 17 May 2027. Undergraduate teaching starts on 27 September 2027. Deadlines to meet offer conditions for January and May were "to be confirmed" when we checked.

Deposit. The deposit is £4,000, paid before your CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) is issued. For Middlesbrough, the university says it refunds the deposit if your visa is refused and keeps it if your visa is issued. The London page says it "may" refund, so read the terms for your campus. Our guide to UK university deposits explains how refunds usually work.

CAS steps. A credibility questionnaire, an immigration history check and a funds check come first; the CAS is then normally issued within five working days. Read what a CAS contains before you start.

Scholarships. The Global Excellence Scholarship gives a £2,000 fee waiver in Year 1 for January 2027 starters at Middlesbrough or Darlington, at undergraduate or taught postgraduate level. It is automatic, but you must hold an offer by 1 November 2026. The September 2026 Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship and the London International Scholarship are closed.

How much money you need for the visa

You must show unpaid tuition plus living costs, held for at least 28 days in a row. GOV.UK sets living costs at £1,171 a month outside London and £1,529 in London, for up to nine months. Teesside's Middlesbrough example is £13,000 of fees plus £10,539 of living costs: £23,539. The amounts rise for applications made on or after 30 November 2026, so check the latest funds rules and the 28-day rule first.

Applying from Sri Lanka

Teesside has a Sri Lanka country page. For Year 1 undergraduate entry it states "standard UK entry requirements", without listing A/L grades, so ask for a decision on your actual results. For postgraduate study it accepts:

  • a four-year special or professional degree with a GPA of at least 2.7 out of 4, or B-
  • a three-year general degree with a GPA of at least 3 out of 4, or B

You will take your TB test at the IOM clinic in Colombo; see our IOM Colombo TB test guide. Biometrics happen at VFS Colombo, and any credibility interview is online with UKVI.

Team Prosper

Team Prosper
Team Prosper|Editorial Team
Team Prosper is the editorial desk at Prosper Global Education, the Colombo-based study abroad consultancy co-founded in 2023 by Lasantha Jayawardena and Sandeepani Wickramasinghe. Articles carry this byline when they report a policy update, a university announcement, or an intake change, rather than draw on either founder's first-hand experience of guiding students. The desk links to the primary government or university source behind every factual claim, and says plainly when a rule is still changing or a detail has not yet been confirmed. Requirements move, and an article that pretends otherwise is worth less than one that tells you what is settled and what is not. For guidance on a specific application, Prosper's counsellors work directly with students and families from the Colombo office.
