University of Greenwich for International Students: Entry, Fees and Intakes

October 27, 2026

TL;DR: The University of Greenwich is a London university with campuses in Greenwich, Avery Hill (Eltham) and Medway in Kent. For 2026-27, international undergraduate fees are £17,975 for most courses, and MSc Data Science and MSc Project Management each cost £19,450. Most taught master's accept a 2:2, postgraduate students need IELTS 6.5 with 5.5 in each skill, and the deposit is £3,000. Greenwich runs September and January intakes, with April starts on selected courses.

Students shortlist Greenwich for three reasons: a London address, a 2:2 entry level for most master's, and a January intake. Before you commit, it helps to see the full cost, the deposit rules and the steps to a CAS in one place. This guide does that, using the university's own pages. Want to know if you meet the entry level? Check your eligibility with Prosper.

Is the University of Greenwich good for international students?

For many students, yes. The university holds a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework and has students from more than 150 countries. It has three campuses:

  • Greenwich: a riverside campus beside Greenwich Park, inside a UNESCO World Heritage Site, close to central London. The Dreadnought Building hosts academic, teaching and computing spaces.
  • Avery Hill: a green campus in Eltham, south-east London, with teaching, sports facilities and student accommodation.
  • Medway: at Chatham Maritime in Kent, described by the university as a forward-thinking university in a historic setting.

Greenwich suits students who want a London degree with a 2:2 entry level for most master's, and those who need a January start. Our guide to the UK January intake shows how the timeline works.

University of Greenwich entry requirements

Undergraduate. Greenwich asks for A levels at BBC or equivalent, and some degrees allow advanced entry to Year 2 or 3. Students who fall short can start at the University of Greenwich International College, run by Oxford International about 15 minutes' walk from the Greenwich campus. Its International Year Zero needs five GCSEs at A* to C plus IELTS 5.5, and the International Year One (Business only) needs 80 UCAS points plus IELTS 5.5. Successful students move straight onto their Greenwich degree, on one visa for the whole course.

Postgraduate. Most taught master's ask for a 2:2 honours degree. If your degree is a third, the college's pre-master's programme accepts a third-class honours degree with IELTS 5.5.

English language.

Level IELTS Academic PTE Academic Duolingo English Test
Undergraduate (most courses) 6.0, 5.5 in each skill 59 105
Master's (MA, MSc, MBA, LLM) 6.5, 5.5 in each skill 63 120
Nursing 7.0, 6.5 in each skill 67 130

PTE needs at least 51 in each skill and Duolingo at least 95; PTE and TOEFL must be taken in person. If you need more English first, the college runs 6-week and 12-week pre-sessional courses, which need a UKVI IELTS. Not sure which IELTS you need? See IELTS for UKVI vs IELTS Academic.

Deposit, CAS and visa funds

Deposit. Greenwich asks for a £3,000 deposit within 28 days of your offer. It is normally non-refundable, so read the terms before you pay; our guide to UK university deposits explains what to check.

CAS. After the deposit, you complete Greenwich's CAS checks online and upload your documents. You may be asked to pass a practice UKVI interview before the CAS is issued, and the university advises not paying further fees until you pass. Our pre-CAS interview guide covers the common questions. The CAS is issued up to six months before the course starts, and the CAS team may ask for extra funds evidence to reduce the risk of a visa refusal.

Visa funds. Greenwich is in London, so the Student visa asks for £1,529 a month in living costs for up to nine months (£13,761), plus any unpaid tuition, held for at least 28 days in a row. These amounts rise for applications made on or after 30 November 2026; check the 28-day rule before you move money.

Applying from Sri Lanka

Greenwich publishes a Sri Lanka page with useful specifics:

  • A Sri Lankan degree with B, a GPA of 3.0 or a Second Lower is treated as a UK 2:2; B+, 3.3 or a Second Upper as a 2:1.
  • English at A/L can replace IELTS: a C covers IELTS 5.5 and a B covers 6.0 to 7.0. English at O/L, taken within seven years of your start date, also counts: C for 5.5, B for 6.0 or 6.5, A for 7.0. See studying in the UK without IELTS.
  • Before a CAS is issued, Sri Lankan students pay 50 percent of tuition for September and 100 percent for January 2027.
  • January 2027 starts on 4 January 2027. The CAS issue deadline for Sri Lanka is 11 December 2026, and the latest arrival date is 29 January 2027.
