Auckland University of Technology (AUT): Campuses, Fees and Entry
TL;DR: Auckland University of Technology (AUT) is a New Zealand university with City, North and South campuses in Auckland. Most undergraduate degrees start on 22 February or 12 July 2027, and AUT recommends applying at least three months before the start. Fees on AUT's international fees page run from about NZD 39,900 to NZD 50,300 for 120 points on the courses checked, and master's study usually asks for a B grade average and IELTS 6.5.
Auckland University of Technology suits students who want a practical degree in New Zealand's largest city, in business, computing, engineering, health or hospitality. This guide covers the campuses, 2027 start dates, fees, entry and English requirements, scholarships and pathways, all from AUT's own pages. If you want a quick view of where you stand, check your eligibility with Prosper.
What is Auckland University of Technology like for international students?
Auckland University of Technology teaches across three campuses in Auckland:
- City Campus: AUT's biggest campus, in the heart of Auckland's central business district, home to most of its programmes at every level.
- North Campus: in Northcote, home to health sciences, education, and sport and recreation.
- South Campus: in Manukau, where you can study fully or combine study with City or North.
AUT's 2027 prospectus describes it as a QS 5-star university. In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, AUT says it rose to 23rd in the world for sports-related subjects and was equal first in New Zealand for hospitality and leisure management.
AUT intakes and when to apply
AUT's 2027 prospectus lists most undergraduate programmes as starting on 22 February 2027 and 12 July 2027. Some postgraduate business programmes have four starts: 22 February, 3 May, 12 July and 20 September 2027.
AUT does not publish one fixed closing date for international degree applicants. It recommends applying at least three months before your programme starts, which means applying before late November 2026 for a February 2027 start. You then need time for the New Zealand student visa, so earlier is safer. Our New Zealand February intake guide sets out the timeline.
AUT fees for international students
AUT's international fees page lists the cost for 120 points, which is a typical full-time year, including a student services levy of NZD 1,221.60. These are the figures on the page in October 2026. AUT does not show the year beside them (other entries on the page are labelled as 2026 fees) and says fees change from year to year:
| Programme | Tuition | Total with levy |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences | NZD 41,400 | NZD 42,621.60 |
| Master of Business | NZD 38,700 | NZD 39,921.60 |
| Master of Computer and Information Sciences | NZD 45,900 | NZD 47,121.60 |
| Master of Engineering | NZD 49,100 | NZD 50,321.60 |
Check the 2027 fee on the programme page before you accept an offer. For a wider comparison, see our guide to New Zealand tuition fees for international students.
AUT entry requirements
- Postgraduate: the Master of Computer and Information Sciences and the Master of Business both ask for a B grade average or higher in level 7 courses of your bachelor's degree.
- English, master's: the Master of Computer and Information Sciences asks for IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with all bands 6.0 or higher.
- English, bachelor's: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with all bands 5.5 or higher, TOEFL iBT 80 (with set minimums in each section), or PTE Academic 50 with no score lower than 42. AUT does not accept the online versions of IELTS and PTE, and results must be less than two years old. The Duolingo English Test is not on AUT's list.
- Undergraduate: set by country (see the Sri Lanka section below).
AUT says its entry requirements are a guide only and do not guarantee a place. For how New Zealand universities compare, read our guide to New Zealand university entry requirements.
Scholarships and pathways at AUT
AUT runs international scholarships by region. Its latest published South Asia scheme, for Semester 2 2026, was open to citizens of Sri Lanka and other South Asian countries starting a bachelor's degree or higher: NZD 5,000 towards undergraduate tuition, NZD 10,000 for undergraduate excellence (a B+ average or equivalent) and NZD 7,000 for postgraduate study. Places were filled every two weeks until they ran out. Check AUT's international scholarships page for the 2027 round before you apply.
If you are not yet ready for direct entry, the AUT Certificate in Foundation Studies, taught by UP International College, guarantees entry into an appropriate AUT programme when you pass with the required grades. AUT's English Pathway Programme offers Academic English from IELTS 5.5 for students with a conditional offer.
Applying from Sri Lanka
AUT's country table for Sri Lanka asks for GCE A/L results with a minimum of three A/L grades for undergraduate entry; confirm the exact grade rule for your programme before you apply. Sri Lankan applicants are listed as eligible for AUT's South Asia scholarships. You can sit IELTS Academic in Colombo (IELTS Sri Lanka guide) and then apply for the student visa, with the documents set out in our New Zealand student visa requirements guide. After graduating, see what the New Zealand post study work visa allows.
