Is London Metropolitan University good for international students?

London Metropolitan University (London Met) suits students who want to live and study in London and who value applied, career-focused courses. It has two main campuses: Holloway, on Holloway Road in Islington, north London, and Aldgate, in the East End near Aldgate and Aldgate East stations.

League tables give a mixed picture, so read them together:

  • Guardian University Guide 2027: 67th overall, up from 89th, and 3rd in the UK for value added, which measures how much students improve from their entry grades. London Met reported these results on 12 September 2026.
  • Complete University Guide 2027: 129th of 130.
  • Subjects: in the Guardian guide, Interior Design is 2nd in the UK and Sociology and Social Policy is 3rd.

What this means for you: London Met is strong at taking students forward from their starting point and at applied subjects such as design, business, computing and criminology. If a high overall rank matters most for your career plan, compare it with other London universities such as the University of Westminster and the University of East London.

London Met is a licensed Student sponsor. It appears on the Home Office register of student sponsors published on 2 November 2026 as a Student Sponsor with a track record.

The January intake at London Met

January welcome week starts on 25 January 2027, with international orientation on 21 January 2027. London Met sets two sets of deadlines, depending on whether your nationality is on the Home Office differential evidence list:

Applying from Sri Lanka

Team Prosper is the editorial desk at Prosper Global Education, the Colombo-based study abroad consultancy co-founded in 2023 by Lasantha Jayawardena and Sandeepani Wickramasinghe. Articles carry this byline when they report a policy update, a university announcement, or an intake change, rather than draw on either founder's first-hand experience of guiding students. The desk links to the primary government or university source behind every factual claim, and says plainly when a rule is still changing or a detail has not yet been confirmed. Requirements move, and an article that pretends otherwise is worth less than one that tells you what is settled and what is not. For guidance on a specific application, Prosper's counsellors work directly with students and families from the Colombo office.
